Vinyasa yoga describes a flowing form of yoga where postures are linked together in a fluid sequence. No two classes are the same, as we link movement with the breath. This class is suitable for beginners but is slightly more fast paced and can be a challenge. Expect to build strength, flexibility and find a deeper sense of calm during these classes.
This is seen as one of the more traditional forms of yoga and incorporates static holds of postures. Hatha yoga is perfect for beginners and advanced practitioners alike as it encourages you to delve into the postures at the centre of most yoga practices, understand them and feel in control of them. There is a strong focus on the breath in Hatha yoga and it is a wonderful way to tune in with both your physical and mental worlds.
This is a fast paced and strong practice which is ideal for those looking for a challenge. Power yoga is not a class to start with as a beginner but instead is more open to those of an intermediate or advanced level. Expect lots of chaturangas, planks, lunges and the option to take arm balances and inversions throughout class. Power yoga will leave you feeling fired up and ready for the day ahead.
Slow Flow takes its influence from Vinyasa yoga, in the sense that there is a fluid movement between each posture but at a significantly slower pace. This class really aims to allow people to find perfect synchronicity between movement and the breath, allowing people to slow down, find space and completely relax into their own rhythm.
Yin yoga is growing increasingly popular and that is really not surprising. Yin yoga is floor based and encourages long holds of each posture (between 1-10 minutes) so as to encourage the fascia and tissues of the body to release and relax. The body is supported with props to help us hold these postures for longer and to truly allow the body to soften into its ‘edge’ during each pose. This class can be like a meditation as we stop, listen to the breath and to the body.
Not to be confused with yin yoga, restorative yoga is also floor based and still. Once again you are supported by props but this time they are used to really help the body truly relax and restore. Postures are held for at least 10 minutes and are aimed at relaxing the nervous system so you feel nourished and recharged by the end of the session. These classes are perfect for those needing some tender loving care, as you will definitely feel loved and cared for by the end.
Growing up can be a stressful time. Whether pressure comes from school and exams, home-life, friends or social media, kids yoga is a great way to encourage children to switch off and learn about themselves. During a session, we will discuss specific topics, such as self-love, and then link this in throughout the class as we explore postures, breath work and also have some fun with games.
This is the perfect way to bond as a family. Family yoga is a mixture of yoga poses, breathing techniques and games. We dance, we laugh and we relax. Family yoga is open to all ages and any family member.
Pregnancy Yoga is a great place to find time for just you and your baby. Yoga, during pregnancy, can alleviate symptoms such as lower back pain, cramps and fatigue. In addition, it can help prepare your body for labour through various breathing techniques and movements. This is a class where women can gather together, share their experiences and provide support for one another at this magical time.
This class helps the body rediscover, repair and restore itself after such a monumental life experience. Postnatal Yoga encourages the body to strengthen and stretch, as well as providing much needed rest and me time. Expect abdominal and pelvic floor exercises, in addition to a strong focus on alignment as we encourage the spine and pelvis to realign once more.
Mum and Baby Yoga
This class is essentially a postnatal yoga class but with the option to also bring along babies. At Floga we appreciate it can be hard to find time to head out to a yoga class by yourself, so if that is you, bring your baby! Babies are very welcome and this is a really fun way of bonding. You will learn gentle movements that are helpful for baby, as well as for yourself!
Yoga doesn’t have to always be on a mat, you can also do it from the comfort of a chair. Chair yoga is available to anybody who feel less steady on their feet and would like some support. By utilising a chair we take gentle stretches and movement to keep the joints mobile and the muscles active.
